Date: 8th and 9th december
Time: 10.30 - 4.30
Venue: no.6 cinema at portsmouth dockyards
The people organising and exhibiting in this exhibition are all second year Photography students at Portsmouth University. We are primarily organising this for one of our modules (project management 2) but we are also doing this for our own knowledge on the field of exhibitions and practice for the future.
We are organising an exhibition of our work, this work has been taken from the first brief in our Documentary Practices unit (on the theme Territories). We have had to organise this ourselves and had to consider form of the exhibition, location, publicity, funding, online presence, catalogues and lots of other problems that have arisen while trying to organise this. Although we have had support from our lecturers we have mainly done this ourselves.
Our group consists of 14 people (you can find out who on our Artists page) and all had very different ideas but they all come down to one in the end, ‘The Big Picture’.
As ‘The Big Picture’ suggests our venue is a cinema (as well as a place we can exhibit physical art work) we thought that this would be a great opportunity to give something unusual and interesting for the viewer. A place that you can sit and relax and watch the images rather than walk around and not giving the images the time that they need to enjoy.
Our idea was that we wanted to work with lots of other people to make this Exhibition happen. So we looked at up and coming photographers and artists to talk about there work at the exhibition (please see special guests) as well as using local businesses to help us with our exhibition too.
